About
I’m currently and entrepreneur in residence at Ventures West, a great base from which to explore innovative technologies and the smart people behind them. My areas of interest include everything to do with the internet, from the business models it enables to the the infrastructure that enables it.
Most of my 18 year career has been spent in or around data centers, which led me to found Think Dynamics in September 2000 where I was CTO. I’ve heard Think Dynamics referred to as Cloud Computing 1.0, and in its current incarnation, Tivoli Provisioning Manager powers IBM’s BlueCloud offering. After IBM acquired Think Dynamics in May 2003, I spent 2 years at IBM in NY as a Director of Strategy for Tivoli’s on demand automation portfolio.
Prior to founding Think Dynamics, I established a data center consulting practice that delivered enterprise systems architecture and management services to customers that included Virgin, Norwich Union, one2one, Millipore, ADP and Teleglobe in the UK, USA and Canada. This practice was made possible by 4 years in systems engineering and architecture at Sequent, a pioneer in large commercial SMP and NUMA systems.
In addition to the EIR gig at Ventures West, I consult on market and technology strategy for start-ups and multi-nationals, speak on virtualization and cloud computing, and serve on the Board of Directors of RapidMind, and the Board of Advisors of virtualization management companies Cirba, Embotics and Opalis.
